Company Profile

Company Overview

Duke Health Engineering and Operations provides facility maintenance, renovation, and construction services for Duke University Hospital, Duke Clinics and Medical Center research facilities as well as other Duke Health System and School of Medicine facilities. We maintain the building structures, systems, and equipment from the ground to the roof and provide discretionary construction and renovation services as requested.

Engineering and Operations (E&O) is divided into five major areas: Duke Hospital Maintenance Division, Duke Clinic Maintenance Division, Research Facilities Maintenance Division, Construction Division, and Administrative Services. The department is comprised of approximately 295 staff members.

The maintenance divisions provide support to their respective areas by maintaining existing facilities and equipment. Each maintenance division has core shops representing each of the building trades: HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, and Carpentry/General Maintenance. These facilities are maintained daily by staff performing preventive and corrective maintenance and repairs to facilities, equipment and systems.

The Construction Division provides services to all areas with project and service request work. These discretionary services range from small service requests to major renovation projects. The Construction Division uses the services of subcontractors to supplement the Duke workforce, enabling us to handle multiple renovation and construction projects.

The Administrative Services Division consists of the Director’s office along with Finance/Business operations, Human Resources, and Engineering Support. This division supports the entire department.
