The Superintendent will lead construction trades and/or other subcontractors as directed. Reports to the Project Manager. Perform duties expected of multi-disciplinary construction work activities. Ability to work well with customers/employees and possess strong computer skills. Work from verbal or written instructions, sketches, diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and vendor manuals must comply with all state, municipal, tribal, or facility codes and specifications.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Oversee and manage all onsite construction activities to ensure they are completed safely, in accordance with design specifications, budget constraints, and project schedules. The outcomes should align with Aleut Construction LLC's quality standards. This role involves collaboration with client representatives, architectural and engineering (A/E) teams, and subcontractors.
- Serve as the representative for Aleut Construction by fostering a professional relationship with the owner, architect, engineers, inspectors, and subcontractors. This includes collaborating with various oversight agencies and other consultants to ensure that the project runs smoothly and is completed on time and within budget.
- Inform on-site project staff, subcontractors, suppliers, architects, engineers, and owners about Aleut Construction safety and quality assurance policies.
- Responsible for overall quality control for both Aleut Construction LLC and subcontractors on the project.
- Interpret and understand specifications, blueprints, submittals, shop drawings, ASI's and RFI's as required for the area of supervision.
- Hold a weekly subcontractor foreman meeting to review the updated schedule, meeting minutes for required activities, and discussions on ASIs, RFIs, proposal requests, and approved change orders. Assign tasks to subcontractors and communicate production goals on a daily basis.
- Review the completed work to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, uniform building codes, ADA regulations, local ordinances, and all safety standards, policies, and procedures while maintaining the highest quality standards.
- Maintain and complete daily log reports, work logs, concrete pour logs, daily production forms, job site photographs, safety incidents, and safety and injury reports.
- Willingness to travel frequently and maintain personal vehicle use for Aleut Construction purposes.
- Implement safety procedures to ensure OSHA guidelines are followed
- Maintain and enforce the company's Injury and Illness Prevention Program
- Coordinate and administer safety meetings with owners, subcontractors, suppliers, and field personnel
- Prepare pre-task plans and conduct toolbox talks with subcontractors and field personnel
- Coordinate with the Project Manager to inform them about construction progress and any issues that may impact the baseline schedule.
- Review the plans and specifications for constructability and construction schedules. Advise the project team of any identified issues or deficiencies.
- Create a punch list for subcontractors and make sure that all items are completed to satisfaction.
- Organize, oversee, and document city, tribal and third-party inspections to obtain final inspections and a certificate of occupancy.
- Attend OAC meetings and engage in discussions regarding the 3-week lookaheads and updates to the baseline schedule.
- Obtain and maintain the Dust Control Permit and the Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP).
- Schedule and complete the Activity Hazard Analysis (AHA) for safety.
- Develop and manage schedules, including the 3-week look-ahead schedule and visual management plans, to coordinate and track effective phasing coordination and schedule progress.
- Conduct on-site project orientations, pre-construction planning sessions, and project site meetings
- Perform daily inspections and quality control checks at all stages of construction.
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to promptly resolve any quality-related issues.
- Investigate accidents and prepare relevant reports. Document all inspection results and corrective actions
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
EDUCATION/TRAINING
- High school diploma or equivalent education or job training.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a supervisory construction role.
- OSHA 30 preferred.
- First Aid/CPR/AED
- EM 385-1-1 Safety Training
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
- Requires the completion of a formal apprenticeship program or its equivalent and 5 years' experience as a journeyman in at least one of the trades, with some experience in others.
- Physically fit to bend, stoop, and lift in awkward positions and able to lift 50 lbs.
- Understand, read, write, and speak fluent English.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess strength, stamina, and mobility to work in potentially hazardous conditions.
- Must be able to lift to 50 lbs. unassisted.
- Must be able to communicate with, hear, and understand others verbally.
- Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods.
- Ability to walk and reach with hands and arms.
- Ability to perform repetitive movements of the fingers, hands, wrists, and arms.
- Ability to wear and work using PPE.
- Must be able to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
- Must be able to tolerate loud noises and unpleasant odors.
Must possess strong skills in reading and interpreting construction drawings to ensure that work is completed following the plans, specifications, and timelines. They should have a solid understanding of construction drawing requirements and be familiar with specifications in the CSI format, as well as the terms of project contracts, subcontracts, RFI's, ASI, and purchase orders.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to wet, humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate; however, high, loud noise levels can occur. Employees may be exposed to environmental hazards.
CERTIFICATIONS
- Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
- Able to receive and maintain a favorable Local Background Check (LBC) and/or National Agency Check (NAC) as applicable to the position requirements, current and future.
