Business Need / Purpose of Role

Weir ESCO is seeking an innovative engineer to develop products, processes and solutions to expand and enhance the Construction Expendables Product portfolio. The position requires high-level technical contribution, working with minimum supervision, continually improving standard work and the development processes. The job will require solid mechanical engineering skills and an understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and computer aided engineering. This position will provide engineering and specifications to develop and release products and tooling that meet customer requirements. WeirESCO uses many world class engineering tools and software to develop products.The product will be manufactured in global Weir ESCO facilities as well as being sourced from suppliers. This position will report to the Engineering Team Lead.

Objectives & Measurement - Key Responsibilities
  • Communicate with customers and sales personnel to identify design criteria for best in class products which meet and exceed customer expectations
  • Use sound engineering principles and practices in defining, solving, and documenting problem solutions
  • Participate in first article manufacturing trials, lab testing, and field trials
  • Develop primarily cast products that meet customer and manufacturing requirements
  • Work with manufacturing teams and/or suppliers to ensure products meet quality requirements and are completed on time and on budget
  • Work with manufacturing to improve quality and reduce costs of existing product
  • Utilize standard development processes and standard work
  • Maintain data through product lifecycle using engineering change orders and database tools
  • Identify and implement opportunities for continuous process improvement
  • Effectively communicate with internal and external customers at all levels


Job Knowledge / Education and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Two+ years' related engineering experience
  • CAD modeling skills; ideally with Siemens NX
  • CAE skills: FEA
  • Proficiency with MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams)
  • Willing and able to travel up to 15% (domestic and international)
  • Must be authorized to permanently work in the United States without sponsorship


Additional Skills & Experience:
  • Analysis tools: FEA, DEM, MAGMASOFT®, Adams and LS-DYNA
  • Mining or Construction industry experience
  • Design for Manufacture and Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Design of Experiments and applied statistical analysis
  • Fabrication and casting design
  • Understanding and interest in materials and fracture mechanics
  • Pattern tooling design
  • Laser scanning & scan to model processing
  • Project management (MS Project preferred)
  • High degree of creativity and a drive for results
