Varnum LLP seeks to hire an attorney to join the Litigation Practice Team in one of our southeast Michigan offices (Ann Arbor, Birmingham, or Novi).

We are seeking candidates with 8 to 15 years of significant experience in construction law. The successful candidate will have a working knowledge of construction contracts and all types of construction claims. Specifically, as to construction contracts, the candidate should have material experience in drafting and negotiating standard form contracts (e.g., AIA, Consensus Docs, etc.) as well as custom contracts, including issues regarding payment terms, limitations of liability, warranties, termination, and ADR. In addition, the candidate will have material experience with all types of construction claims, including delays, inefficiencies, defects, warranties, design, liens, and bonds.

The successful candidate also will have engaged in trials, arbitrations, and administrative proceedings, with lead responsibilities. Candidates should also have extensive experience in leading litigation matters and in arguing motions, taking and defending depositions (including experts), and possess excellent research and writing abilities The ideal candidate will have demonstrated business development experience, including a meaningful portable book of business with additional growth potential; ability to manage files, supervise client contact and lead commercial cases; the ability to simultaneously juggle multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining a high level of responsiveness; exceptional attention to detail; and outstanding client service skills. Admission to the Michigan bar is required.
